“I happened to be staying in and around Avignon a couple of years back, traveling around and exploring.  Layers of history are always right there humming with you, all kinds of leftover energies across centuries vying for your attention.  Pagan life, Gothic, Papal, Renaissance, plague, invasion, sediments of era mixed together.  The music to “Town of the castle” is a reflection of this, early music instruments mixed up with more modern.  After we recorded a take, someone said it sounded like medieval Hall & Oates.  That sounds jokey, but it’s about right.  I’m happy to make music that reaches out across time and touches base with old, forgotten things”
